For my PhD (University of Würzburg) I worked on loess-paleosol sequence. During my Postdoc (mainly at University of Bern) I investigated the evolution of soils, sediments and landscapes in the temperate and tropical zone. Currently I work at the Swiss Center of Competence for soils (Bern University of Applied Sciences), focusing on soil parent materials, properties and distribution.

Clark revolutionised how we reconstruct the dynamic behaviour of ice sheets of the last glaciation. He pioneered remote sensing and GIS to decipher glacial landforms and discovered mega-scale glacial lineations, recognising them as imprints of ice streams. He is distinguished for leading large campaigns collecting landform and geochronometric data of the Laurentide, British-Irish, Scandinavian and Greenland ice sheets. His BRITICE-CHRONO project resulted in the British–Irish Ice Sheet becoming the world's most well constrained retreating ice sheet. Clark’s work has improved understanding of ice sheets, sea level and climate change. His current focus in palaeoglaciology is on data-modelling interactions.
